Director of Environmental Engineering Services (PE) or (PG)

The ideal candidate for the Director of Environmental Engineering Services understands this role requires many levels of leadership to help advance our company to its optimal performance.

Team Leadership - Translate our vision for the company into a compelling and tactical plan for your entire team. Champion the alignment of our talented team with strategic initiatives, core services and key clients. Recruit, coach, develop, motivate and reward team members so company growth targets are achieved as a benefit of their success and enthusiasm. Lead by example by maintaining billability and consistently driving new revenue.

Performance Leadership - Deliver on the safety goals and financial budget (i.e., sales, net revenue, profit, and cash management) for your team. Contribute to company’s safety culture through active safety leadership. Have familiarity with and ability to operate in the “seller & doer” model, perform reviews of projects and coach our team to enhance the service delivery, client satisfaction and business growth.

Commercial Leadership - Participate in developing growth strategies for Millennium and supporting the overall financial success of the company by working collaboratively with the Management Team. Ensure delivery on company services to key clients. This includes working on the development of key client action plans and championing the use of sales tools and training. Assist in the development and implementation of practiced growth.

The Person - The ideal candidate will be leading a significant part of the business for our company. S/he has a track record of successfully implementing growth strategies, having spent time in delivery and business development roles, and evoking change that resulted in a sustainable competitive advantage. This person will have interacted with client businesses in a fashion that has achieved trusted advisor status.

The ideal candidate will have worked closely within the top ranks of senior management in a high-growth culture; this unique perspective will allow them to partner closely with our company’s senior management in the pursuit of ensuring our client management platform goes to market with a single face and strategy that align with overall business goals.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Like every member of our Team, the Director of Environmental Engineering Services, is key to the company’s success. While the responsibilities of this position may vary day to day, in general responsibilities include:

a) Developing, managing and/or performing environmental evaluations, assessments, investigations – including, but not limited to soil investigations, soil management plans, groundwater assessments, hydrological investigations, CUPA-directed site closure programs (UST, HMMP, etc), SWPPP-related plans and project oversight, and general hazardous materials evaluations and response actions.
b) Preparing and/or reviewing remediation plans and specifications;
c) Preparing Assessment and Remediation Reports.
d) Developing technical project proposals, presentations and detailed budgets.
e) Participating in technical development initiatives;
f) Performing Client Management and Development duties;
g) Ensuring regulatory policy compliance;
h) Supervising and providing technical guidance to Project Team;
i) Networking with environmental groups and organizations to contribute to local growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

a) Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Sciences or related discipline
b) California Professional Engineer License (Civil) or California Registered Professional Geologist;
c) QSD (Qualified SWPPP Developer) Certification;
d) Experienced working in the Real Estate Development environment;
e) 10+ years consulting experience in the SF Bay Area;
f) Prior P&L responsibility (experience in managing a Business Unit preferred);
g) Strong ability to mentor/develop staff;
h) Proven track record of developing business and managing clients;
i) Excellent written and verbal communication, strategic thinking and “people” skills.

Project Manager - Environmental / Industrial Hygiene

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will perform and manage a variety of projects, tasks and duties under the general supervision of Senior staff and/or company Principals. This position requires a responsible and conscientious individual experienced in technical, service and business aspects of environmental consulting. Tasks can vary from day-to-day, but will include

a) Performing industrial hygiene evaluations including: field inspections, sampling of air/water/soil/building materials for the presence of hazardous materials, employee monitoring, abatement and construction monitoring and/or management;
b) Preparing and/or reviewing remediation plans and specifications;
c) Performing environmental and geoenvironmental evaluation of sites, including air/water/site permitting, hazardous materials management, assisting with design preparations including AUTOCAD site plan preparations.
d) Preparing Assessment and Remediation Reports.
e) Developing technical project proposals and detailed budgets.
f) Performing Client Management and Development duties: Candidate will work with Client Development staff to carry out Corporate goals and objectives.

Prerequisites

  1. 1. Education & Technical Experience:
    1. a. A solid understanding of construction practices, building and engineering technology; knowledge of basic chemistry, geology and mathematics;
    2. b. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans;
    3. c. At a minimum, possess a four-year degree in the construction technology, engineering or health sciences;
    4. d. A minimum of five years (5) of related field experience;
    5. e. A minimum of three years (3) of project and client management in the environmental consulting industry
  2. 2. Client Management & Development Experience:
    1. a. Experience in client presentations - including "short-list" interviews preferred;
    2. b. Experience in contract and/or client management preferred;
    3. c. Experience in with local/regional business climate highly preferred;
    4. d. Ability to meet prospective clients, develop technical and cost proposals highly preferred.
  3. 3. Oral Communication skills: The candidate must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills as this position requires significant personal interaction in a variety of settings.
  4. 4. Written Communication skills: The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to prepare written documents, memorandums and letter reports using MS Office;
  5. 5. Computer Literacy: The ideal candidate will be proficient throughout MS Office applications; competent with basic database programs and graphics; familiar with Autocad and/or Autocad LT.
  6. 6. Certification(s): professional certification in the following disciplines:
    State Certification in Asbestos and Lead - required; Microbial/IAQ professional certification is encouraged; advancement towards obtaining California Professional Engineer (PE, Civil) and/or Certification in Industrial Hygiene (CIH, Comprehensive) is encouraged and supported.
  7. 7. Personal transportation is required along with state-required insurance.

Compensation

Millennium offers an excellent compensation plan, which includes a wide array of company paid benefits available to all regular full-time employees, including: Paid vacation, Paid holidays, company sponsored medical, life insurance and long-term disability; profit sharing and 401k.

The compensation package is dependent upon education, technical and client management/development experience. The initial starting salary for the initial 6 months (training phase) is projected to range from $48/k to $62/k per annum. At the successful completion of the initial phase, a performance and compensation review may occur.

Field Environmental Technician (Entry Level)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Field Environmental Technician will perform duties under the supervision of Project Managers, project level engineers and industrial hygienists. This employee will assist in the execution of a variety of industrial hygiene (e.g., asbestos, lead, fungi, indoor air quality, chemical and physical hazards) and environmental engineering-related field investigation and monitoring tasks. Tasks can vary from day-to-day, but will include:

a) Industrial Hygiene evaluations including field inspections, sampling of air/water/soil/building materials for the presence of hazardous materials, employee monitoring and workplace surveillance, abatement and construction monitoring - estimated 75-80% of overall responsibilities;
b) Environmental and Geo-environmental evaluation of sites, including assisting with air/water/site permitting, hazardous materials management, assisting with design preparations including AUTOCAD site plan preparations - estimated 15-25% of overall responsibilities; and
c) Preparation of Technical and General Survey Reports and Remediation Reports.
This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Travel within California area will be required, including overnight travel. Night, weekend and holiday work may be required.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical requirements include:
a) Standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to feel materials, reach with hands and arms, and smell. Frequently, standing and walking will be for long (i.e., >6 hours/day) periods.
b) Climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching and crawling. These physical demands may be for extended periods of time (i.e., >2 hours/day).
c) Using ladders, mechanical lifts and scaffolding;
d) Regular lifting of up to 25 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.; May be required to lift 50+ lbs.
e) Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environments:

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Typically, the work environments are encountered at construction sites, excavation sites, healthcare facilities, municipal facilities (e.g., waste water treatment plants), military sites, and commercial buildings of all types. The work environments include but are not limited to:

a) Work areas requiring respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment (e.g., boots, gloves, eye/face protection, and hardhats) from dusts, fumes, mists, gases, etc.;
b) Wet and humid conditions;
c) Extreme cold and extreme heat conditions;
d) Outside weather conditions;
e) Working from heights;
f) Working around moderate to loud noise levels;
g) Crawl spaces and above ceiling access spaces;
h) Confined spaces including permit-required confined spaces and non-permit required confined spaces; and
i) Other work environments in which chemical, physical and biological hazards may reasonably be anticipated to occur.

Prerequisites:

1. Fundamental understanding of construction practices, building and engineering technology; knowledge of basic chemistry, geology and mathematics; ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans. This can be met through a combination of hands-on field experience and college study.
The ideal candidate will, at a minimum, possess an Associate's degree in the construction technology, engineering or health sciences and two years of related experience.
2. Oral Communication skills: The candidate must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills as this position requires significant personal interaction in a variety of settings.
3. Written Communication skills: The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to prepare written documents, memorandums and letter reports using MS Office.
4. Computer Literacy: The ideal candidate will be able to navigate through MS Office applications, database programs, and graphics programs (e.g., AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD LT).
